In 2015, Edinburgh born entrepreneur and designer Craig McKellar (pictured) saw an opportunity to use traditional clan tartans in a subtle way to create stylish shirts. He has always had a love for shirts and therefore his love for tartan and quality timeless classics, led him to design shirts unlike any others. Working in the corporate world, Craig has always had an appreciation for dressing smart and he is keen to introduce tartan into smart casual clothing.
OUR PRODUCT & The McKellar Cuff
Most people would agree that tartan looks smart in formal dress but why is it not incorporated into everyday fashion? CRAGG & TAIL exists to provide high-end quality and stylish shirts using beautiful traditional clan tartans. Our products are designed to be timeless just like tartan.
Importantly, some of these shirt designs include tartan inside the collar, at the side gussets, behind the front placket of the shirt and inside the cuff. The unique feature of traditional tartans inside the cuff is referred to as the 'McKellar Cuff'. Our shirts with this feature are The George, The Edinburgh Rose and The Holyrood.
CRAGG & TAIL use UK manufacturers and suppliers to make high-end quality designed products. The skills evidently exist here and with your help we hope to breathe a breath of fresh air into the UK manufacturing industry.

We don't believe tartan is only for kilts.
It is our vision that wherever you are in the world, a Cragg & Tail shirt will connect you to the beauty of Edinburgh, Scotland and our heritage, whilst dressed in style.
The name, Cragg & Tail, is inspired by the glacial rock formation on which the iconic Edinburgh Castle sits ( the Crag) and the Royal Mile (the Tail) attached to it.
The purple signature in the brand’s logo, represents this famous cragg and tail formation. Purple is also associated with Scotland’s national emblem, the thistle.
